While I wasn’t a massive fan of CLERKS II, the rest of View Askewniverse (the name of the collected works of Kevins Smith) is probably one of my favorite shared universes. Consisting of (now nine) movies, it’s all the creation of the mastermind Kevin Smith. CLERKS, MALLRATS, CHASING AMY, DOGMA, JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, CLERKS II, JAY & SILENT BOB'S SUPER GROOVY CARTOON MOVIE!, JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT, AND NOW CLERKS III.

There’s something about the simplicity of director Kevin Smith’s earlier films that had a quality that is hard to explain. This was the saving grace for me; the film captured the magic and heart of the original CLERKS. The meta aspect of the film truly makes it a thrill to watch, a proper love letter to Smith’s entire filmography.

The cast alone is iconic, and the addition of so many cameos makes the film complete. If you’re not a fan of the View Askewniverse, you probably won’t appreciate the movie as much as you potentially could. If you haven’t seen the other films, I suggest checking them out first. While you could enjoy it on its own, the other films mean a lot to it.

Brian O'Halloran (as Dante) gives one of the most remarkable performances in a comedy film. While the film is a comedy, this one veers more into some dramatic moments than any of Smith’s works before. I enjoyed the entire cast's performances, but O’Halloran sealed the deal for me.

If you have the chance to check the film out at one of the special Fathom Events showings, I couldn’t recommend it enough. This is 110% a film to see in theaters with a crowd; the more fans together, the better the experience will be. While I had the honor of screening the movie myself before its release, I will also attend one of the in-person screenings. In addition to the film, you get a behind-the-scenes look into the film and the cast.

  1. I got the honor to see this on Kevin Smiths roadshow meet and greet. This movie is what we’ve been waiting for. I still say I prefer Clerks 2 as my favorite Clerks movie as I think the lines are so quick and funny and the movie has the most rewatchable value as far as entertainment. But this movie right here is his heart pun intended. This movie is funny and emotional it has so many call backs to the orginal clerks movie and the cast as well. Some of the best acting we’ve seen from these two and it makes me wonder why they havent been in more.
