RAVING REVIEW: A film that would’ve probably been far better for me if I knew more about the music label Oh Boy Records.

I consider myself somewhat of a music fan, but this came to show me how little I knew. I feel like I may have enjoyed the experience more if I had known more about the record label the documentary is about. Sometimes a documentary can educate you on a subject, and sometimes it’s for the fans. This is the latter, and if you’re familiar with the label already, this will probably be something extraordinary for you.

A story of one of the most successful family-owned record labels that started as a mail order business over 40 years ago. While I wasn’t familiar with the label, I gained an entirely new level of appreciation and a lot of curiosity. BIG OLD GOOFY WORLD – THE STORY OF OH BOY RECORDS offers a personal look into the history of the label that overcame to prove they could. It offers behind-the-scenes glimpses into the long and storied history.

A snippet from Wikipedia reads, “The label has released more than 40 audio and video recordings by singer-songwriters Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Daniel "Slick" Ballinger, Shawn Camp, Dan Reeder, and Todd Snider, along with a dozen reissues of classic country music artists.” While I’m not familiar with most of the artists (outside of Kris Kristofferson and his acting career.)

I enjoyed the experience of the film and learning more about this industry; I’ve had Kristofferson on Spotify all day because of it. If anyone has suggestions for other artists they worked with, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I’m always looking to expand my musical tastes.
